ANNOUNCEMENT AND CALL FOR POSTERS
2006 POSTER SHOW and EXHIBIT

Co-sponsored by The Catholic University of America Department of Biology

What is it? This annual event is an occasion to get together with other microscopists to discuss and show off your work. You see everyone’s latest and greatest pictures as well as checking out the displays of our corporate sponsors…get up to date on new equipment, techniques and supplies! All the while socializing over a great buffet.

When: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

Where: The Catholic University of America, McMahon Hall Foyer.

Directions and Parking: McMahon Hall is in the middle of campus (see map at: http://welcome.cua.edu/maps.cfm). The Brookland/CUA Metro stop across McCormick Road is only a 5 minute walk to McMahan Hall, so we strongly encourage taking the Metro. If driving, directions are available at http://www.cua.edu/directions/. From most places, you will take Michigan Avenue until you see the Basilica dome marking an entrance at 4th St., NE. There is no free parking on campus. There are some metered spots next to the Basilica and on McCormick Road on the east side of campus. There is also parking at the Metro stop. For Mapping: 620 Michigan Avenue, NE, Washington, DC 20064

Enticements: PRIZES for the best posters! FREE FOOD & DRINKS!

Entry requirements: Very easy! Bring a full poster from another meeting or just some beautiful micrographs. You could even bring a computer generated show-and-tell. You do not have to be a CSM member to enter, so bring friends, colleagues, fellows and students. Poster boards are small tri-fold cardboard ones again this year (36” height X 48” wide).

FREE Registration!! Email your poster title, the authors, your affiliation, and your entry categories: predoctoral, postdoctoral or established investigator; light microscopy or electron microscopy; full poster or small presentation or other (micrographs, work in-progress, etc.) to Chris Brantner (brantnec@ninds.nih.gov)

Deadline for entries is June 16

For MIPAV users: A new version of MIPAV (Version 1.60 1/13/2006) is available on web at http://mipav.cit.nih.gov/

Major enhancements include:

  1. The 3D Volume and Surface renderering redesign is nearly complete. 3D rendererings are now faster, use less memory and have more rendering options.
  2. Significant progress has been made on the redesign of the Triplanar view and work is continuing. The redesign, with enhancements, should be completed by the next release.

Go to http://mipav.cit.nih.gov/latest.html to see a complete list of upgrades/fixes.

For those _brave at heart_ we now provide access to nightly builds of MIPAV. The nightly builds will have new features and bug fixes but the may be less stable. You can access the nightly build via the link at the top of the download page.

Please note, a number of MIPAV course will be taught during the second week of March. The course descriptions can be found at
